Brabham sets new track record en route to Mid-Ohio Trans Am pole

Matthew Brabham in the No. 21 GYM WEED Ford Mustang claimed his first pole of the season by setting a new track record of 1m19.525s in the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The late addition to the entry list is the second car in the CD Racing stable this weekend. Brabham filled in for team owner Chris Dyson (No. 16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang) yesterday in testing after Dyson’s flight was delayed.

“It's incredible; obviously it's been a great weekend so far here in Mid-Ohio,” said Brabham. “It's such a great track for these cars, but hats off to the CD Racing boys and Chris Dyson for having me back. The team's done a great job. Chris couldn't make it yesterday, so he lacked a little bit of track time there, but I had the testing yesterday that went well. I drove both cars, and obviously my car was on fire today, and it's all thanks to the GYM WEED CD Racing guys.”

Kaylee Bryson (No. 02 Logical Systems Inc. Chevrolet Corvette) was quickest in XGT, while Carey Grant (No. 6 Grant Racing 2 Porsche GT3 Cup) topped SGT. Chris Coffey (No. 97 Norwood Auto Italia/Traffic Grafix Maserati MC GT4) was fastest in the GT class, while Jon DeGaynor (No. 04 Speed Dream’n Racing Ford Mustang) was best in GT1.

The Mid-Ohio SpeedTour TA/GT race will be contested Saturday at 12:35 p.m. ET. It will be streamed live on Trans Am’s YouTube channel, @TheTransAmSeries and broadcast live on SPEED SPORT 1 with coverage beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET. An encore presentation will air on SPEED SPORT 1 at 7:00 p.m. ET. For more information on where you can watch SPEED SPORT 1, click here.
